CLEVELAND -- Edwin Encarnacion got a day of rest before the All-Star break on Sunday, and Corey Patterson returned to the Blue Jays' lineup for the first time since Tuesday.
Patterson got the start in right field, so Eric Thames moved from his usual spot to designated hitter in place of Encarnacion, the team's regular DH.
Encarnacion was hitless in Saturday's 5-4 win after going 4-for-5 the night before. Patterson came off the bench in both games, but did not bat in either.
Patterson, a career .253 hitter, is batting .258 with six homers and 31 RBIs in 79 games this season.
Patterson's 2011 numbers are slightly better than those of Encarnacion, who is hitting .255 with six taters and 19 RBIs in 70 games.
