KANSAS CITY -- Right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez was claimed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays, the Royals announced on Friday. He was designated for assignment on Oct. 11.
Chavez appeared in four September games for Kansas City with no record and a 10.57 ERA. For Triple-A Omaha, Chavez had a 2-4 record, 16 saves and a 3.75 ERA in 45 games.
Obtained from Atlanta on July 31, 2010, as part of the deal that sent pitcher Kyle Farnsworth and outfielder Rick Ankiel to the Braves, Chavez was 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in 2010 during his 23 appearances for the Royals. He began his big league career in 2008 with the Pirates.
