TORONTO -- The Blue Jays optioned left-hander Aaron Laffey to Triple-A Las Vegas following Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Orioles.

Laffey had been promoted to the Major Leagues on Monday to provide depth to an overtaxed bullpen, but he did not appear in a game. The veteran has had two stints in Toronto this season but has yet to throw a pitch.

Toronto did not announce a corresponding roster move but indicated that one is expected prior to Friday night's series opener against Boston. The transaction likely will involve a position player, as the Blue Jays anticipate going back to a seven-man bullpen.

The 27-year-old Laffey is 21-23 with a 4.34 ERA in parts of five big league seasons. He has spent time with the Indians, Mariners and Yankees, but will now find himself back with Las Vegas to provide organizational depth.
