The Blue Jays signed left-handed pitcher Matt Smoral, their second pick and the 50th overall in the 2012 Draft, to a $2 million deal on Tuesday.
Out of Solon High School in Ohio, Smoral is listed at 6-foot-8, 230 pounds. It's likely he would have been drafted higher had he not suffered a stress fracture in his right foot that caused season-ending surgery.
Smoral is the 23rd of the club's 44 draftees to sign thus far. Outfielder D.J. Davis, Toronto's first selection and 17th overall, was signed on June 11.
Smoral has a fastball in the low 90s, a slider in the mid 80s, and a solid changeup that he throws in the low 80s.
The deadline to sign Draft picks is July 13.
