The incident occurred with a runner in scoring position and one out, with J.P. Arencibia at the plate in a tie ballgame. Arencibia swung at strike three, but the ball got away from Twins catcher Drew Butera.
Butera then made a throw to first base in an attempt to record the second out of the game, but the ball hit Arencibia in the back on his way to first base. As the ball bounced into foul territory Arencibia was immediately called out for runner interference.
"I saw it as J.P. was on the line," said Farrell. "Obviously after seeing the replay, Marvin made the right call. But in that moment, I felt like J.P. was on the line and in the basepath, but in the end he made the right call. But, still, even though we're three days from the final game, we're still competing and trying to do everything we can to win a ballgame."
That stopped Adeiny Hechavarria from scoring the winning run from second base, and prompted Farrell to sprint out of the dugout. He was tossed for the second time this season following an animated -- but brief -- argument with Hudson.
Hechavarria came around to score one batter later when Anthony Gose recorded a walk-off single to secure the 6-5 victory in 10 innings.
