Blue Jays name Hentgen bullpen coach
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have named PAT HENTGEN as the Bullpen Coach to complete Manager John Gibbons’ staff for the 2013 season.
HENTGEN, 44, returns to the role in which he made his Major League coaching debut during the 2011 season. The Detroit, Michigan native had a stellar 14-year playing career that included 10 seasons in a Blue Jays uniform. In 1996 the right-hander posted a 20-10 record with a 3.22 ERA to capture the first Cy Young Award in Blue Jays history. Notably made 183 consecutive starts between 1993 and 1998. Hentgen has also spent eight of the last nine seasons as a Blue Jays Club Ambassador and Special Assistant to the Organization.
He joins a coaching staff that includes bench coach DeMarlo Hale, pitching coach Pete Walker, hitting coach Chad Mottola, first base coach Dwayne Murphy and third base coach Luis Rivera.
