Blue Jays claim Gonzalez

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have claimed RHP EDGAR GONZALEZ on waivers from the Houston Astros.

GONZALEZ, 30, was designated for assignment on April 5 after not appearing for the Astros this season.  In 2012 the 6-2, 210 lb. right handed pitcher was 3-1 in six starts for the Astros with a 5.04 ERA.  The native of Nuevo Leon, Mexico has a career Major League record of 17-26 with a 5.84 ERA in 113 games with 47 starts.   This spring he appeared in five games posting a 3.46 ERA.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays have transferred RHP Dustin McGowan to the 60-day disabled list.
