Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was named Honda Player of the Month for April, the third consecutive month he has won the award, dating to the 2012 campaign.
The Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America selected Encarnacion over pitchers Casey Janssen, J.A. Happ, Brett Cecil and catcher J.P. Arencibia, who all received votes.
Encarnacion has remained a steady force in a lineup that has endured early-season injuries to Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista. Encarnacion batted .238 in April, with a team-leading nine home runs and 20 RBIs. The 30-year-old slugger, who socked a career-high 42 homers last season, has tallied seven or more long balls in five of the last seven months of regular-season play.
