ST. PETERSBURG -- Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was ejected during the ninth inning of Tuesday night's game versus the Rays following a dispute with home-plate umpire Marty Foster.

Encarnacion struck out swinging, but was possibly upset about two called strikes earlier in the at-bat. He slammed his bat to the ground after the strikeout and Foster appeared to offer some sort of warning.

The 30-year-old Encarnacion either didn't hear the warning or was too upset as he proceeded to slam his helmet to the ground. Foster responded by ejecting Encarnacion as Blue Jays manager John Gibbons sprinted onto the field to argue his decision.

Encarnacion appeared surprised by the ejection, but left the field after the brief exchange. He was replaced at first base for the bottom of the ninth by Adam Lind, who shifted from designated hitter.
