Blue Jays ink three to Minor League deals

The Blue Jays signed three players -- shortstop Jonathan Diaz and right-handers Michael Broadway and Marcus Walden -- to 2014 Minor League contracts, each with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Diaz, 28, returns to Toronto's organization after spending last year in the Boston system. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Pawtucket but made his Major League debut and appeared in five games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-4 with two runs.

Broadway, 26, spent time with Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals' system last year, going 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA and six saves in 30 relief appearances. He has a 28-24 record and a 4.36 ERA over nine career Minor League seasons.

The 25-year-old Walden will return for his seventh season with the Blue Jays after being drafted in the ninth round in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He pitched for Double-A New Hampshire in 2013, going 6-14 with a 3.71 ERA in 26 starts.
