BALTIMORE -- When Jose Bautista slid into home to make the second out of the eighth inning against the Orioles on Saturday, it was clear that a replay was going to be needed. The rule invoked to look at the play, though, was a bit of a surprise.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons came out to discuss the play with the umpires almost immediately, but a review would happen anyway. Under the new home-plate collision rule, the umpires could review the play to make sure no illegal collision took place.

After one minute and 41 seconds, a crew chief review showed that catcher Nick Hundley was not in violation of the collision rule, and Bautista was tagged out by Hundley before touching the plate after a perfect relay from left fielder Nelson Cruz and shortstop J.J. Hardy.

Had the play been reversed, Toronto would have cut the O's lead to one run. Instead, the Orioles remained ahead 3-1 on their way to a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.
