With one out in a 2-2 game, Reyes' shallow hit fell just in front of a sliding Ben Zobrist in right field, bouncing off Zobrist's glove. Reyes tried for second, and second baseman Sean Rodriguez retrieved the ball and fired a one-hopper to shortstop Yunel Escobar covering the bag. Escobar, barely keeping the ball in his glove, laid the tag down on Reyes as he dove in.
Second-base umpire Tim Timmons called Reyes out, and Reyes got up wagging his finger in argument. Manager John Gibbons challenged the call, but after a one-minute, 38-second replay review, the call on the field was confirmed and the Blue Jays lost their challenge.
Toronto has challenged 32 calls this season, nine of which have been overturned.
