Rasmus' late arrival leads to removal from order

HOUSTON -- Outfielder Colby Rasmus was removed from the lineup for Thursday night's series opener against the Astros after showing up late to the ballpark.

Rasmus had originally been listed in the starting nine, but Toronto made a late change after what was described as an "internal team decision." Nolan Reimold got the start instead, and he went on to hit a pair of home runs in Toronto's 6-5 victory.

Manager John Gibbons declined to specify a reason for the late move, but Rasmus was more forthcoming when approached by reporters.

"I was late getting here to the field," Rasmus admitted. "Wasn't here when I was supposed to be, and they punished me, as they should have.

"No excuse. Just got caught up eating lunch with the family, got caught up in a little traffic and didn't make it on time. It is what it is."

Rasmus did eventually get into the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning. He later had an at-bat but struck out in his only plate appearance.
