Lady Jays to host 30th Annual Food Drive

On Friday August 8, Saturday August 9, and Sunday August 10, the Lady Jays will be hosting the 30th Annual Lady Jays Food Drive in support of Food Banks Canada. Fans coming to Rogers Centre throughout the weekend are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, provide monetary donations, or purchase grab bags for $25 and $40 which contain an autographed baseball cap and other various Blue Jays items.

"It's always important to get involved in the community, and being with Canada's only baseball team, we are incredibly lucky to host an event that has an impact across the entire country," says Jilly McGowan, wife of Blue Jays pitcher Dustin McGowan. "Visiting and volunteering at the food bank each year, we are able to see firsthand how important the work they are doing is, and we are very fortunate to be in the position to give back and assist them in alleviating hunger."

The Lady Jays Food Drive is the Blue Jays' longest standing community initiative, and each year raises awareness about hunger and food bank use in Canada. Food collected throughout the weekend will go to support a local Affiliate food bank in Toronto, while cash donations will be directed to Food Banks Canada to support national programs.

"We're excited to once again partner with the Lady Jays and Toronto Blue Jays during their annual food drive," says Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "This annual event brings out the very best in baseball fans as they generously help to raise thousands of pounds of much needed food and funds that will truly help Canadians in need across the country."

Food Banks Canada supports a unique network of over 3,000 food-related organizations in every province and territory that assists close to 850,000 Canadians each month. Together their network shares over 200 million pounds of essential safe quality food annually, provides social programs that help to foster self-sufficiency, and advocates for policy change that will help create a Canada where no one goes hungry.
