Blue Jays prospect Labourt earns playoff win

Left-hander Jairo Labourt, the Blue Jays' No. 16 prospect, won the ERA title in the Northwest League this season with a 1.77 mark in 15 starts. On Thursday, he extended that success to the playoffs.

Labourt allowed one run in six innings and earned the win, as Class A short-season Vancouver defeated Spokane, 5-4, in Game 2 of their Northwest League semifinal series. With the victory, Vancouver swept the best-of-three series and advanced to the championship set against Hillsboro. The Canadians have won the last three league titles and will be looking to extend that streak this weekend when the finals get underway.

In Thursday's victory, Labourt struck out three, while scattering six hits and two walks. He has won four straight decisions, a streak that dates to July 25.

Labourt began the year with Class A Lansing, but he struggled with his command and spent just one month with the Lugnuts. The 20-year old headed West to Vancouver when the Northwest League season began in June and pitched much better for the Canadians. He struck out 82 batters and walked 37 in 71 1/3 innings, while holding opposing batters to a .188 average.

After an off-day, Vancouver will host Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series on Saturday at 10:05 p.m. ET. The series will then shift to Hillsboro for Game 2 on Sunday and, if necessary, Game 3 will be played on Monday.
