Luke was on the golf team in high school and still golfs quite a bit in his free time, boasting a 3 handicap...Luke's hands are so large that he can grip seven baseballs in one hand...He and his wife, Paige, married on Nov 1, 2014… on their first anniversary, she ran the New York Marathon, 26.2 miles through the city's five boroughs…Paige is a mechanical engineer…the couple met when he was playing college summer ball for the Amsterdam (N.Y.) Mohawks, where she was working a summer job at the split-the-pot booth...His grandfather, Dick Maile, was an AllAmerican in basketball at Louisiana State University and his father, Rich, was a cornerback on the Kentucky football team…his mother, Laurie, ran cross country and track in high school…has four younger siblings...Luke was a good student who won a couple creative writing awards in high school.

Recalled from Triple-A Durham over the All-Star break…started 35 of the club's 74 games in the second half (34-C, 1-DH)…played 14 innings at 1B off the bench...Caught 7 of 25 attempted base stealers (28.0 pct.), the best rate ever by a Rays rookie backstop (min. 10 SB attempts)...Rays pitchers compiled a 3.14 ERA (301-IP, 105-ER) with Maile behind the plate, compared to a 4.48 ERA with all other catchers...Had a .273 avg.
